This week saw the Economy Minister, Diane Dodds, announce a commitment to a minimum target of 70% renewable energy electricity generation for Northern Ireland by 2030 and pledged to fully explore a range of potential support schemes.

In the event that a new renewable incentive scheme is introduced for onshore wind energy generation anyone who previously had planning approval that wasn’t implemented should ensure this remains valid. The best and most cost effective way to do this is through a planning renewal application.

If approval isn’t resubmitted and expires this means that investors will be obliged to start the planning approval process again, with no guarantee of planning being granted. The renewal application must be submitted before the expiry date on the original application and the renewal process should be started three months prior to this date.

Having amassed over 120 planning approvals for wind turbines as well as associated applications for a wide range of clients, our planning experts can manage this process for you.
